You may ask yourself why it is necessary to hire a bookkeeper for your business, when perhaps you feel it is a job you can do yourself. The reality is, your time is better spent running your business than doing the books.
Does your accountant prepare your accounts from a cash book, or from your invoices? If so, this is costing you extra as it takes the accountant longer to prepare the accounts. As accountants charge by the hour, you can get quite a hefty fee for this. And this is a job that can be done by myself at a lower cost. I do not charge by the hour. I negotiate a price with my clients, and that is a fixed monthly cost which will only change should the work load increase significantly. There are no surprise fee increases or fee notes.
Are you VAT registered? If so, it is important to complete your VAT returns correctly. HM Revenue & Customs can charge interest and surcharges for VAT claimed incorrectly, or for VAT not declared on sales invoices. Maybe you are not claiming VAT on payments that are vatable and so you are out of pocket. Hiring a bookkeeper to do this job for you gives you peace of mind and takes a weight off your shoulders.
I also appreciate that you come and collect my paperwork from my home so I don’t have to travel far and leave my work to come and deliver it.'
